Living in New England, we have dozens of fantastic family-friendly destinations just a quick drive away. Even parts of Canada are within a short drive. While we often venture via plane to our vacations, we do drive for shorter getaways.
This past April, we headed out on our favorite family road trip so far – a trip to Washington, DC. It’s about 7 1/2 hours from our home West of Boston. While I wouldn’t have been as comfortable driving that distance with young kids, my kids were 8 and 10 at the time, and were ready for it. We headed out late on Friday night, right when April vacation started, and stayed overnight a few hours away in Greenwich, CT. That head start allowed us to arrive in DC right before lunch – the perfect time to check in and settle in to our hotel.
This road trip was my favorite because it was such a fun adventure. The kids were old enough to entertain themselves (for the most part), and they even created a fun music mix for our journey. We stopped at a few great restaurants on the way (Frank Pepe in New Haven, for instance), and encountered fantastic weather on both legs on the journey.
On December 18th, you can watch the Chipmunks embark on their own road trip – a “road chip”. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is the next movie in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Here’s the synopsis:
Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in Miami…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.
Starring: Jason Lee, Tony Hale, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Josh Green, Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Kaley Cuoco, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate
My kids loved the first three movies, so I’m sure they’ll enjoy this one as well.
